Doing Bad Time

Yesterday I wrote a post (never published) about how bad it was gonna be covering Day 2 of the $2,500 NLHE Event. Turns out I was optimistic–it was probably the worst day I’ve ever had at the World Series. We’re trying a new player ID system and when it works, it’s great. When it doesn’t work, when the cards get mixed up or the players toss them aside, it’s a nightmare. Yesterday was a 14-hour nightmare. I spent 14 hours covering an event and I had no idea what was going on. Every time I tried to get my head around it another disaster cropped up and I was in free fall again. Then we didn’t get out until 5am, when the sun was trying to sneak a peek above the horizon.

Today, not so bad. Quite good, actually–the final table played out in about 4 hours, meaning we got to go home at 6pm instead of 5am. Went home, went to South Point to get something to eat, cash in my winning Euro 2008 bets, play some video poker and have a few beers. Now I’m home and waiting for sleep to gather me in her gossamer arms and spirit me to Dreamland. I’m beat.

I started writing a post bitching about how things have gone so far in Vegas, but you don’t want to read it and writing it would just tilt me worse. I’m off tomorrow, maybe play some poker myself, maybe try to meet up with some people for dinner or a drink. One thing I wanted to to this year as opposed to last was spend more time with my friends, talking, drinking, having fun. Yeah, that hasn’t happened, at all. Maybe tomorrow.

No quads tonight, bitches. Very frustrating. Don’t those machines know who I am?
