Not to Bitch, But…

One problem that I’ve identified with my game is this–while I know some folks are terrible players, I give them credit for being good players. When I flop top pair with AK and get re-raised, I can’t help but feel that the other guy hit a set. When in fact he has A-4 and seeing that ace gave him a woodie.

I just got knocked out in a SNG by a guy who would min raise every hand and then toss in $30 on every street. Twice I had straight draws that didn’t get there, and then I flopped bottom pair, made two pair on the river, and that last card filled in his inside straight. On the hand I got knocked out on I had AK and raised. Another guy re-raised, and Mr. Genius re-re-raised. I was shortstacked so I pushed, the other guy folded and Mr. Genius called off another $600 with…

He turned a three and knocked me out. The next hand he called a big all-in with 44 against jacks and made a straight on the turn. Every dog has his day. Every horrible player can get lucky and hit a few hands.

I just need to remember that there are some horrible players out there, and don’t be afraid of them. Embrace their horribleness, for therein lies the profit.

Still pissed, tho.

i used to have this exact problem. even at the ridiculous $50nl party tables, id have tptk and worry when my opponent raised.

its taken me years to get confident enough to really ‘stick it’ to poor players.

a few things that have helped me when i run into spots like that. i stepback and think “if i lose this will i really miss the $_____ that much?” i play cash games, so if a donk puts in his last $80, i’ll usually just go along with him, realizing that i wont miss the money even if im wrong. once you do this a few times, it starts becoming routine.

another thing that helps is being properly rolled. that way i can be calm in my decision making, knowing that it wont really cripple me if im wrong.

then just follow through with your reads.
