I Speak For All Football Fans

I hate John Mellancamp.
I hate Chevrolet.
I hate General Motors.
Because of that “This is My Country” song.
That they play every commercial break.
Every commercial break.
Every commercial break.
Every commercial break.
Sometimes they play it twice during a commercial break.
This has been going on for weeks now.
It has to stop.
Please make it stop.
Why would anyone think a montage of images of Vietnam, 9/11, and Katrina would make me want to buy a Chevy?
Because they don’t.
I do not want to buy a Chevy.
Ever.
For perpetuity.
Throughout the Universe.
Who was the genius who thought examples of American weakness, failure and sorrow would make consumers want to buy a car?
And can this genius be sent to a small arid island with no electricity for a term of at least 20 years?
Is this too much to ask?
I don’t think it is.
Thank you.

I think they are gearing up for their new line of cars, the Chevy Failure and the Chevy Enduring Occupation.

Wow, freakin’ awesome post. I was watching football yesterday and was ready to pull my hair out at every commercial break. You captured that feeling of perplexed-annoyance-anger perfectly!

In part because of this post, my vote will be cast for Mean Gene in 2008.
I was ready to shoot my TV by the second quarter of last night’s game. Most annoying commercial ever.

Mean Gene drives a Chevy. Mean Gene is chagrined. Mean Gene’s next car will not be a Chevy. This, Mean Gene can assure you.

I love the song, but everytime I see the images they use to describe the guy who buys a chevy, I wonder whether the picture with men in pointy white hats and white sheets is on the cutting room floor. Maybe that’s a little overboard, but the picture of the boy scout and words that say “this is where we get our values” or something like that, makes my stomach clench for every gay person and woman in the world. Not that Chevy is aiming at those folks, but geeze, they’re just one frame from the rebel flag wrapped around six boys in the back of one of the trucks. Or it feels that way to me.
