Saw the new Bond flick yesterday, after waiting on pins and needles since the closing credits of Casino Royale started rolling. My quicky review? It’s good…and it was a disappointment. Of course how could it NOT be disappointing–I didn’t have such huge expectations before seeing Casino Royale, there’s no poker in Q of S, and Eva Green doesn’t appear in the sequel, not even in flashback.
I won’t go into a scene-by-scene analysis because A) you might not have seen it yet and B) you probably don’t care. But let me just say that there is one utterly fantastic scene in the film, two REALLY bad ones, and the worst use of location titles in any movie I’ve ever seen. You know how Bond goes to an exotic location like, oh, Newark, and as the camera gives you a panoramic view of the town the word “NEWARK” pops up on the screen to let you know what the hell you’re looking at. Anyway, the use of these titles is so incredibly stupid in this movie that it nearly ruined the experience. If you see it you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Daniel Craig kicks ass both literally and figuratively, the two Bond ladies are both extremely fetching (but cannot compare the supernovic Ms. Green) and the villains are appropriately Eurotrashy. Good, but not great.
